<Howdy, Ho ... Below's My Brief Bio>

Greetings, dear visitor! Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to learn a bit about me. I live a life of split personalities -- There is English-speaking Mike Dressel and my Chinese alias, Mandarin-speaking "Teacher Mai" ( 麦老师 ). I have been a California-credentialed public school teacher for nearly 20 years. The start of the 2017-18 school year will mark 7 years that I have been a Mandarin Immersion teacher at RSA. I am happily married to our RSA kindergarten teacher, Mrs Rachel Chen Dressel, (32 years now !!) who is starting her 5th year at RSA. Together, we have 2 children, a son Aaron and a daughter, Christine ( who has followed her parent's footsteps into education as well in Glenn County ). I have been studying Chinese since 1981, and have lived before in both Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Besides teaching, I gain enjoyment from Thrift Store shopping, coin collecting, watching films, and those simple little pleasures in life, like visits to Barnes and Nobles, or relaxing with a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

It is with great joy that I continue to teach First Grade Mandarin Immersion at RSA in room 15. As always, I look forward to getting to know each child who enters my classroom, and to guiding each one in the four fundamentals of Mandarin Chinese second language learning. With topic-based instruction, students integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while discovering and learning through Math, Language Arts, Science, or just exploring and gaining an appreciation for the wonder and fascination of Chinese culture in all its richness.
