Class information:

RSA Orchestra
is an advanced strings class. Students are 6th-8th grade. Students have played their instruments at least one year and can read notation. If there is a student interested in joining orchestra that has not played a stringed instrument, but can read notation, please see me and we'll find an instrument for them.

Jr Orchestra
is 4th-5th grade.  This class also meets during the school day, twice a week. Students have played their instruments at least one year and can read basic notation.

Beginning Strings is 1st-2nd grade.  No prior experience.

Strings 2
This class is for students that have played for one year.

RSA owns enough stringed instruments to allow any student the opportunity to explore music.

Beg Band No experience necessary.  We have a few instruments to loan, but it is limited.  The best bet is to rent, borrow or buy. They will need to purchase the book "Accent on Achievement" by O'Reilly and Williams.  It is $10.

Music is one of the most memorable, character building and rewarding activities during childhood. It always brings a smile.  At RSA, the students have fun exploring different genres and trying different instruments to find what best suits them.  Music opens the doors to many opportunities throughout life.  It leads to making new friends and travel.  It enriches our lives from playing at home for enjoyment and relaxation to school concerts, jamming at family camping trips, to bluegrass camp outs, jazz band trips, high school adventures, solo/ensemble festivals to youth symphonies.  It helps develop good study and memorization skills. Music teaches kids to work issues out and communicate with each other to help each other solve problems without put downs, by learning the skills to effectively get a point across. For instance, I will ask them, "How do you think we can make this piece better?" The kids learn to communicate in a positive manner.  They learn to help each other constructively. Music builds lifelong friendships. It also builds lifelong communication skills that will help in everything they do. It is the international language.  It makes students better people by learning the strategies of working together, language learning, empathy, respect, sharing feelings, learning to communicate effectively, working together on goals and sharing a common passion. The kids constantly help each other in class, from tuning their instruments to playing duets together. If they work hard, they can win music scholarships in college.

All students need to practice daily for at least 20 minutes. Consistency is the secret to success in music. Students from 4th grade up should practice at least 20-30 minutes, but hopefully more than that if they are serious about developing into a great musician.  If they want to earn an "A" they must practice every day. All students must participate in our performances. This is imperative for a good grade.  Miss a performance without a valid excuse and the grade drops one letter. We are a team.
