You are invited to celebrate the Moon Festival with us on Wednesday night, October 4th. The Moon Festival (also known as Mid-autumn Festival, in Chinese ”中秋节” Zhōngqiū Jié) is the second most important festival in the Chinese calendar. It’s a time of thanksgiving, when people get together to celebrate the end of the summer harvest season. It is also an occasion for outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat moon cakes and observe the full moon, a symbol of harmony and unity. It is best that your child is dressed up with Chinese costume on Friday for both the morning rehearsal and the night performance.
Here is the agenda for the night:
6:30-7:10 K-8 student performance, amphitheater (students to be dropped off at teacher’s room by 6:20)
7:10-7:20 Students get lanterns from teacher, classroom
7:20-8:00 Observing the full moon and sing-along, playground
(Moon cakes and glow sticks available to buy on the playground)
Put on a Chinese costume or just wear red. Come to the grassy area on the RSA playground. Bring your own blanket, drinks, and other round foods such as mandarin oranges, cookies, or grapes for your family to enjoy. Yummy moon cakes (store-made & student-made) will be available to buy for $2-5 each. Glow sticks can be purchased for $0.50 each. For safety reasons, students need parent supervision while they’re staying on the playground.
