Supplies:
Sketchbook

Course Description:

In this year-long course, students will begin their first semester in Drawing I/II and transition in the second semester to Painting I/II

Drawing I

Drawing 1 focuses on the development of drawing skills. Students learn “to see” and observe small changes in value and shape, which allow them to translate three-dimensional forms onto a two-dimensional paper. Exercises and projects will train the eye to notice small nuances and changes, allowing not only for growth in drawing but also in other mediums. Students will work on a variety of exercises and projects using a variety of mediums- including charcoal, pencil, pen, and pastel.

Drawing II

Drawing II focuses on the development of drawing skills through observation and  portraiture. Projects are more open ended. Students work in a variety of mediums such as graphite, charcoal, ink, pastels and colored pencils.

Painting I

Painting 1 focuses on the technical skills required for painting. Students will work in acrylic mediums and learn the elements of color theory and composition. Students will learn the techniques associated with portraying value, the painting of light, and three-dimensional forms.

Painting II

In Painting II, students continue to build their fundamental understanding of light, shade, form, value, color, and composition. Assignments range from Still-Life and Self-Portraiture to Landscape and Abstraction/Cubism.
